THE CAPE COD

or center entrance. Most Cape Cods have bedrooms on both levels.
DUTCH COLONIAL
The GAMBREL Roof is the distinguishing feature of the. Other
features typical of a Dutch Colonial: Flared eaves, with or without
dormers. Some older colonials feature all-stucco exteriors.
BALUSRADE
Also called a Widow's Walk, a BALUSTRADE is a small, usually
ornate, fence, on the roof. Often found in Georgian Colonials

ITALIANATE STYLE
Identifying Features: Impressively tall structure, highlighted
with decorative supports. Very shallow pitched roof. Similar
in appearance to ITALIAN RENAISSANCE; however, Italianate makes
much more use of CUPOLAS and ornamental trim. Homes depict a
provincial mode with their tall two- and three-story construction.
Supports, soffits, and covered ENTRANCES are usually embellished
with intricate trim. WINDOWS are often paired and feature hood
mold trims and other adornments.
